Manchester United Monitoring Gary Cahill Transfer
Today, The Sun reports that Manchester United are monitoring the current on-off transfer between Bolton’s Gary Cahill and Chelsea.
It has been reported in recent days that Chelsea have hit a problem during negotiations with the Bolton player whereby they cannot come to an agreement on wages. Bolton and England centre back Cahill is holding out for £100,000 per week while Chelsea – who have apparently agreed a £7 million fee with Bolton – have offered £70,000.
Man United have been hit with injuries to key defenders, most notably to captain Nemanja Vidic who is out for the season. Phil Jones has been deployed largely in midfield due to Sir Alex Ferguson’s mounting injury problems, while there are still question marks over Rio Ferdinand’s continual fitness. Other defenders such as the Da Silva twins are also regular casualties, while Chris Smalling is only just coming back to full fitness.
With Tottenham rumoured to also be showing an interest in 26 year old Cahill, the defenders future club could take several weeks to be confirmed, despite Bolton boss Owen Coyle hoping for a quick transfer to give him time to seek backup for the departing defender.
