Everton sign Kevin Mirallas from Olympiakos
Everton have spent roughly half of the windfall obtained following Jack Rodwell’s sale to Manchester City to sign a new striker, Kevin Mirallas, 24, from Olympiakos. Mirallas joins new Summer signing Steven Naismith and January signing Nikica Jelavic upfront for Everton, but was signed too late to make an appearance for Everton against Manchester United in Monday night’s opening game of the season for the Toffees. Mirallas’ first action for Everton could come in next weekend’s trip to Aston Villa.
Speaking to evertontv and quoted on Everton’s official website, Mirallas said:
‘I’ve known Everton have been following me for a while and after talking with the manager I decided coming to Everton was the best opportunity for me.’
‘I’ll give my best for the fans and the team and they’ll be able to see what I can bring to the team.’
‘I’m a forward player and I can play behind the striker, on the left and on the right but I’m just looking forward to playing whatever the position.’
‘I’m very impatient to play. I want to know what the Premier League is all about’
Mirallas is a proven goalscorer, scoring 20 goals in 25 appearances last season for Olympiakos, and totalling 34 goals in 52 appearances between 2010 and 2012 for the Greek champions. He was last season’s top goalscorer and player of the season in Greece before securing his switch to Goodison Park. Mirallas has signed a four-year contract with Everton which will keep him at the club until 2016. The transfer fee is rumoured to be in the region of £6million.
