Done Deal? Manchester United rumoured to have agreed a fee with Benfica for Nicolás Gaitán
Reports in this morning’s Telegraph newspaper suggest that Manchester United have agreed a fee with Portuguese side Benfica to sign their attacking midfielder Nicolás Gaitán. The deal with Benfica for 24-year-old Gaitán is rumoured to be in the region of £20 million, plus players. Italian striker Federico Macheda and Brazilian full-back Fabio Da Silva are the United players reported to be make-weights in the cash plus player deal that is expected to be announced in the summer.
Argentine Gaitan is believed to have a £38 million release clause in his contract and although Benfica were trying to hold out for the deal, they feel that now might be the time to cash in on the versatile midfielder who can play off the front two as an attacking playmaker, or on left-wing.
The report in today’s Telegraph also says that talks between United and Benfica have been on-going for several months for the player that impressed against both Manchester United and Chelsea in this season’s UEFA Champions League.
Regarding the switch of Fabio and Macheda to the Stadium of Light in Portugal, it is believed that Fabio will be on a year’s loan, while Macheda could be a permanent transfer, although the young Italian has failed to impress in recent loan moves to Sampdoria and Queens Park Rangers.
What do you think of the transfer rumour surrounding Gaitan’s move to Man United? Would Gaitan be a good signing, or should the Red Devils be looking elsewhere? We always welcome comments so please feel free to add your opinion below.

Yes he is a very good player and would be a perfect signing for united and more players would be expected. All united fans in Nigeria suggest that we need defenders midfielders and strikers.

i don’t think gaitan will make the grade at old trafford. man u’s champions league and europa’s performance was catastrophic. any player from the world would have performed against us, so it is not wise to give our ‘targets’ credit because they were outstanding against us in champs league.

Not only gaitan but luka modric and shinji kagawa are also needed.
