Angelo Henriquez seals Old Trafford switch
Manchester United have announced that promising 18 year-old Chilean forward Angelo Henriquez has completed his move to Old Trafford after months of speculation. The youngster has moved to the Red Devils for an undisclosed fee, rumoured to be in the region of £3million.
Henriquez, who passed a medical in Manchester last month, is to wear the number 21 jersey meaning that there is little chance of the Old Trafford club sending the Chile International straight back on loan to his former club. Henriquez has only made 17 appearances for his club in a short career, but hit 11 goals during that time, sparking interest from United and a host of other top clubs. But Sir Alex Ferguson has been monitoring the Chilean star for some time claiming that United had to push the transfer through as other clubs began to intensify their interest.
Sir Alex Ferguson spoke about his latest capture, telling ManUtd.com:
“Angelo has made a tremendous impact on the game in his short career so far. His pace is a great asset and he reads the game really well for someone of such a young age.
“We have a proud record of developing young talent and Angelo fits the profile of a United player – skilful, attacking and someone who plays the game with real flair.”
Henriquez also boasts a strong record at Chilean youth level, having featured in a variety of age groups for the National Football Team of Chile. With 21 goals in 18 games;16 coming this summer between July and August 2012 for the Chile under-20 side. The striker has been quick to heap praise on his new manager and the club he has joined, telling United’s official website:
“I am thrilled to be joining the biggest club in the world. Manchester United is a great team and has a great manager.
“To be able to be part of that is a huge honour and I can’t wait to get started. I hope I can be part of many successful years with United.”
We reported that agreements had been reached back in June between the Old Trafford club and Universidad de Chile, however official confirmation of Henriquez’ transfer has only just been confirmed by Manchester United, despite several pictures of the youngster in the new United kit circling the media last week.
